This index will make it so much simpler to browse which I have been doing crazy quilt style.

That's very useful. If you go into your blog design screen and choose 'layout' then 'add a gadget' you should find a gadget called 'blog archive' which will list your archive on your blog so any post can be easily linked to.
On my version the archive gadget is on the second page of the gadget list at the end.
I think I've cracked it. If I click onto your blog title the archive appears. If I click on the post title it doesn't.
